manage and control versions of Photoshop files within Adobe Photoshop

Best way to submit Photoshop files to Beanstalk

What is PixelNovel Timeline?

PixelNovel Timeline is a Subversion (SVN) client for Adobe Photoshop that works as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop.

Timeline features a unique user interface that allows you to always see the file's history and save file versions and get file versions without switching from the main Photoshop window.

Works well with Beanstalk.

You can use Timeline Standalone with your own Subversion repository - be it a local repository on your hard drive, a shared Subversion server in your local network or an Internet-hosted repository like Beanstalk.

Perfect for already versioned files.

If your Photoshop files are already under Subversion control, you can just open them in Photoshop - Timeline will display their history straight away!

If not, just type the address of your repository in the Project Assistant and you can save versions of your files into that repository.

Close Timeline Project Assistant.

Once Timeline is installed, Timeline Project Assistant will be started. Timeline Project Assistant is the tool that helps you to add your existing folders and files into your Beanstalk account.

Since your files are already in your account, you can close Assistant and just open any of your PSD files in Photoshop.

Open any PSD file that is under Subversion control.

Open any of your PSD files in Photoshop. Timeline will ask you to enter login and password for the repository the PSD file you just opened belongs to.

After you correctly entered the login information, Timeline will display older versions of your file with "Preview is not available" labels

This is because in order to have the previews you need to submit the versions from Adobe Photoshop using Timeline.

Modify and submit a new version.

You can modify the file in Photoshop and press the "Submit" button. You will be asked to enter a comment for the new version.

After the upload is finished, you will see that there is a new preview appeared in the Timeline window.

What else can you do?

You can go back to any revision by selecting it in the Timeline palette and then clicking the "Get" button. This will get the selected version from your repository and replace the file on your computer with this version.

On the Authorization page, select "Connect to Beanstalk account". Type in your account name, the repository you wish to connect to, your username and password.

Press Next once again, and Project Assistant will create a folder in the root of your repository for the project on your machine.

Please note that Project Assistant does not import all your files from the project folder into your repository - it just creates a mapping between the project folder on your machine and your repository.

Go to Adobe Photoshop and get your hands dirty.

Now you can open any file from the selected folder in Photoshop, and you will see an unsubmitted revision in Timeline palette.

Click "Submit" and the current version of the file will be saved in the repository.
